Karachi: The ongoing heatwave in Karachi has led to a significant rise in various skin diseases across the city.

‎‎According to medical experts, conditions such as heat rashes, skin allergies, prickly heat, and fungal infections have become increasingly common. Dr. Rabia Ghafoor, a dermatologist at Jinnah Hospital, reported that around 600 patients with skin-related complaints are visiting the hospital’s OPD daily.

‎‎Similarly, Dr. Mahesh, a skin specialist at Civil Hospital, confirmed that their hospital is also witnessing over 600 skin cases per day. Meanwhile, Dr. Abdullah from AMS Skin Hospital revealed that they are receiving up to 5,000 skin patients on a daily basis.

‎‎Health experts have strongly advised the public to avoid self-medication in such cases and consult qualified dermatologists instead.

‎To prevent skin issues, experts recommend maintaining personal hygiene, keeping the body cool and dry, wiping sweat promptly, and wearing loose, light clothing.

‎‎They further stated that the lack of rainfall and the suspension of sea breezes have intensified the heat, worsening the situation. From mid-April to early May, Karachi has remained in the grip of extreme heat.
