Donald Trump has flatly rejected reports of a U.S. weapons shortage, calling claims of a depleted military arsenal “fake news” while vowing to identify and punish those leaking classified information.

The former president, speaking to reporters at Mar-a-Lago, dismissed suggestions that the military’s supply chain is under strain. He labeled the narrative a fabrication designed to undermine his administration’s transition efforts. “We have the greatest arsenal in the history of the world,” he said, waving off concerns about readiness levels. “The shelves are full. Anyone saying otherwise is looking for a headline.”

Behind the bravado, the issue of internal leaks has become a focal point for his incoming team. Trump confirmed that a formal “hunt” is underway to track down individuals within the government—or transition circles—who have provided sensitive details to the press.

“We know who they are,” Trump said. “They’re being hunted down as we speak. When we find them, they won’t be working in government again. It’s a disgrace.”

The tension stems from a series of reports in major outlets alleging that U.S. munitions stockpiles—particularly those earmarked for allies—are struggling to keep pace with global demand. Critics of the administration have pointed to these reports as evidence of a “hollowed-out” defense posture.

Trump’s team views these leaks not as whistleblowing, but as a deliberate attempt to sabotage his foreign policy agenda before he officially takes office. By framing the leaks as a security breach rather than a policy debate, the former president is effectively shifting the conversation from military capability to internal loyalty.

Pentagon officials have remained largely silent on the specific claims of a shortage, citing the sensitivity of supply chain logistics. However, the scramble to identify leakers suggests a high level of concern within the transition team about how much internal data is reaching the public eye.

For now, the strategy is clear: discredit the reports, threaten the sources, and project absolute strength. Whether the weapons stockpiles actually reflect that strength remains a point of intense debate in Washington, but for Trump, the narrative is already settled.
