ISLAMABAD, August 8, 2026: The government has reduced the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2.20 and Rs1.50 per litre, respectively, providing a modest relief to consumers.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol will now be available at Rs327.62 per litre, while the price of HSD has been fixed at Rs380.86 per litre. The revised prices will remain effective from August 8 to August 10.

The government continues to impose Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs100 per litre on HSD.

The latest reduction comes after fuel prices had surged earlier this year amid fluctuations in international oil markets and heightened tensions in the Middle East. HSD had reached a peak of Rs520.35 per litre on April 3, while petrol had climbed to Rs458.41 per litre on the same date.

Earlier, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced that fuel prices would be reviewed and fixed on a daily basis in response to changes in international market prices following renewed hostilities between Iran and the United States.

The government had previously been revising fuel prices on a weekly basis since early March while also taking measures to conserve fuel amid concerns over possible disruptions to oil supplies.

The daily pricing mechanism was opposed by the All Pakistan Dealers Association, which said it would consider a protest plan against the new system.

Petrol is mainly used by private vehicles, small transporters, rickshaws and motorcycles, making price changes particularly significant for middle- and lower-middle-income households.

HSD, meanwhile, is widely used in heavy transport, power plants and large generators, meaning changes in its price can have a broader impact on transportation and operating costs.

Petrol and HSD remain major sources of government revenue, with combined monthly sales estimated at around 700,000 to 800,000 tonnes, compared with approximately 10,000 tonnes of monthly kerosene demand.
