ISLAMABAD: Google has marked Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day by replacing its regular homepage logo with a special Doodle featuring the country’s green-and-white national flag.
The temporary design shows the Pakistani flag waving against cloud-like letters forming the word “Google”, giving the search engine’s homepage a festive national theme.
Pakistan observes Independence Day every year on August 14, commemorating its independence from British rule in 1947 and the creation of the country as a separate state.
The occasion is celebrated nationwide with flag-hoisting ceremonies, official speeches, patriotic programmes and public events. Streets, buildings and public spaces are also decorated in Pakistan’s national colours.
Google regularly creates special Doodles to recognise national days, cultural celebrations, historical milestones and notable figures across different countries.
This year, the technology giant has continued the tradition by dedicating its homepage to Pakistan’s Independence Day. Users can interact with the Doodle to access information about the country’s independence and celebrations taking place across Pakistan.
Independence Day events include a 31-gun salute in Islamabad, addresses by the president and prime minister, and various public celebrations featuring national flags, banners and green-and-white decorations.
The special Google Doodle serves as a digital tribute to the occasion and offers users in Pakistan and around the world an opportunity to learn more about the significance of August 14 and Pakistan’s journey to independence.
