Karachi Braces for Scorching Temperatures as Heatwave Alert Issued

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for Karachi and surrounding regions, warning residents to prepare for extreme temperatures over the coming days.

According to official forecasts, temperatures in Karachi are expected to soar to 40°C (104°F) today, with the heat index making it feel as high as 45°C due to high humidity. Nighttime temperatures will provide little relief, staying around 30°C (86°F).

The heatwave is anticipated to persist from May 25 through June 1, putting vulnerable populations — including the elderly, children, and outdoor workers — at particular risk. Authorities have urged the public to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, and wear light-colored, breathable clothing.

Hospitals and emergency services have been placed on high alert to handle any cases of heatstroke or dehydration. Karachi’s health department has also advised community outreach to check on neighbors and family members, especially in densely populated urban areas.

Meteorologists attribute the extreme heat to shifting weather patterns driven by climate change, which has intensified the frequency and severity of heatwaves across South Asia in recent years.

Residents are encouraged to follow official weather updates and take all recommended precautions to stay safe during this challenging period.
