ISLAMABAD: Health experts have raised concerns over the rapidly increasing burden of diabetes in Pakistan, linking the rise largely to unhealthy lifestyle habits, poor diet, physical inactivity and growing stress levels.
Diabetes expert Dr Maryum Aziz said changing lifestyles and reduced physical activity are contributing significantly to the country’s diabetes crisis. She noted that Pakistan is now among the top three countries globally for the number of people living with diabetes, with nearly 33 million people affected.
Experts warned that the disease is increasingly affecting people across different age groups, making prevention and early detection more important than ever. Sedentary routines, unhealthy food choices and stress can increase the risk of developing diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes.
Dr Maryum Aziz urged people to adopt healthier daily habits, including regular physical activity, balanced nutrition and weight management. She also stressed the importance of early screening and public awareness to identify diabetes sooner and reduce the risk of serious long-term complications.
The growing diabetes burden has highlighted the need for stronger preventive measures, healthier lifestyles and improved healthcare responses across the country.
