Muslims across Pakistan are marking Eid Milad-ul-Nabi ﷺ today with traditional zeal, as the country observes a public holiday to commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Streets, government buildings, and private homes have been illuminated with decorative lights and green flags. Processions are moving through major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, where participants are reciting Naats and offering salutations.

Security remains on high alert. The interior ministry has deployed heavy police contingents and Rangers to monitor procession routes. In several cities, mobile phone services have been suspended as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of large gatherings.

The day began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals. Mosques and local community centers are hosting Seerat-un-Nabi conferences, where religious scholars are highlighting the life, teachings, and compassion of the Prophet (PBUH).

For many, the occasion goes beyond the public festivities. Local charity organizations and private citizens are organizing *Langars*—free food distribution—in low-income neighborhoods, viewing the act of feeding the hungry as a core tenet of the Prophet’s (PBUH) message.

Despite the festive atmosphere, the economic strain is visible. Rising costs have impacted the scale of private decorations compared to previous years, yet the turnout at local markets for sweets and festive attire remains steady.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued separate messages this morning, calling for national unity and a renewed commitment to the principles of social justice and tolerance. They urged the public to emulate the Prophet’s (PBUH) example in their daily dealings to address the challenges facing the country.

As the processions wind down this evening, the focus will shift to the final prayers offered at major shrines and mosques, marking the conclusion of a day centered on reflection and communal devotion.
