PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a major change in the province’s medical and dental admission system by deciding to conduct the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) through ETEA from 2027.
The decision was approved by the provincial cabinet, which has formed a committee to examine the technical and legal requirements involved in shifting the examination to the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA).
ETEA was originally established to conduct entrance tests for medical and engineering institutions in the province and has since expanded its testing operations. The agency has also developed a computer-based testing infrastructure.
The move is expected to bring MDCAT under a public-sector testing framework with established experience in conducting large-scale examinations.
The committee will determine the practical arrangements for the transition, including examination procedures, technology, security and legal requirements.
The new system is scheduled to begin from 2027, while the detailed implementation mechanism will be finalised after the committee completes its assessment.
