Health authorities in Rawalpindi have intensified their anti-dengue campaign across high-risk areas, recovering more than 124,000 mosquito larvae during an extensive vector-control operation. Despite the large-scale detection of breeding sites, the total number of confirmed dengue cases in the district has remained at six, with no deaths reported so far this year.
According to the latest statistical brief issued by the District Health Authority (DHA) Rawalpindi, officials recovered 124,341 larvae, registered 1,973 FIRs and sealed 537 premises as part of enforcement measures against dengue breeding sites.
The authorities reported that dengue transmission showed a significant decline, with no new confirmed cases recorded in August. Four cases had been reported in July from areas including Dhoke Hassu Janobi, CTR-15, Kotha Kallan and Kountrila.
Health teams screened 3,450 people across the district. Three patients are currently admitted to municipal health facilities, while there are no active confirmed dengue cases, according to the report.
The anti-dengue operation involved around 1,400 surveillance teams, including 415 outdoor and 985 indoor workers. Authorities said the teams achieved 100% coverage of registered hotspots during the past week and inspected more than 4.2 million residential premises and 1.4 million outdoor locations.
The highest number of larvae detections was recorded in Union Council Girja, Gulistan Colony and Rahimabad, while significant mosquito breeding activity was also found in Dhoke Hassu, UC Morgah, Dhoke Mangtal, UC Kulyal, Kamalabad, Dheri Hasanabad, Chak Jalaldin and UC Chaklala.
As part of enforcement against violations of anti-dengue standard operating procedures, officials issued 1,778 challans and imposed fines totaling around Rs2.124 million on individuals and premises found creating potential mosquito breeding sites.
The health authorities have also held 29 District Emergency Response Committee meetings and 97 Tehsil Emergency Response Committee meetings this year to improve coordination and strengthen dengue prevention measures across Rawalpindi.
