ISLAMABAD, September 4, 2026: The federal government has increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) in Pakistan, with the revised rates taking effect from Friday, September 4.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol has become more expensive by Rs2.84 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has increased by Rs2.28 per litre.

New Petrol and Diesel Prices

After the latest increase:

  • Petrol: Rs349 per litre
  • High-Speed Diesel: Rs374.31 per litre

The previous petrol price was Rs346.16 per litre, while HSD was selling at Rs372.03 per litre.

Daily Pricing Mechanism

The latest increase comes amid continued volatility in international oil markets. Pakistan shifted to a daily petroleum pricing mechanism in July, allowing fuel prices to be reviewed and adjusted more frequently in response to changes in global oil prices and other relevant factors.

The recent escalation in tensions involving the United States and Iran has contributed to uncertainty over global energy supplies and pushed international oil prices higher, influencing domestic fuel prices in Pakistan.

Impact on Consumers

The increase is expected to add further pressure to household and transportation expenses. Petrol directly affects the cost of commuting and private transport, while higher diesel prices can increase operating costs for buses, trucks, agricultural machinery and other diesel-powered vehicles.

The government continues to impose significant taxes and duties on petroleum products. According to the latest reporting, taxes and duties amount to Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on diesel.

The new rates are effective from September 4, 2026.
