Astronomers in Saudi Arabia confirmed that on Tuesday, May 27, at precisely 12:18 PM local time in Makkah, the sun was seen directly above the holy Kaaba. This annual celestial event is significant because it helps Muslims worldwide accurately determine the Qibla direction without the need for modern instruments.
According to the Saudi News Agency, this was the first time in 2025 that the sun aligned vertically above the Kaaba. Isa Al-Ghafili, president of the Qassim Region Astronomy Society, explained that during this moment, people anywhere in the world can face the sun at that exact time to know the precise direction of the Qibla.
