Private schools in Punjab are facing stricter enforcement measures for allegedly violating the government’s revised winter school timings. Education officials in Rawalpindi have warned that first information reports (FIRs) will be registered against institutions that continue to ignore the applicable schedule.
According to reports published on October 27, around 40% of private schools in Rawalpindi district are reportedly not following the revised timings, while approximately 60% are complying.
Under the announced winter schedule, single-shift schools are to operate from 8:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, while Friday classes end at 12:30 p.m. Separate hours apply to schools operating double shifts.
Officials say some private schools continue to open at around 7:30 a.m. and close at 2 p.m., despite repeated warnings from the education department.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has reportedly taken notice of the violations and directed the relevant authorities to ensure strict implementation of the schedule. Officials have indicated that schools failing to follow applicable instructions could face legal action, including FIR registration.
The revised timings were introduced ahead of colder weather to adjust students’ school routines during early-morning hours. Parents have also called on authorities to ensure that schools follow the prescribed schedule.
School administrations should verify the latest instructions applicable to their institutions and ensure compliance. Parents can contact the relevant district education authorities if they have concerns about violations.
