KARACHI: A significant increase in flu cases has been observed in Karachi over the past ten days. The number of patients arriving at the emergency department of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) with flu symptoms has also increased. Previously, around 30 to 40 patients visited the emergency department daily with flu symptoms, but the number has risen in recent days.
According to Dr. Irfan, Head of the Emergency Department at Jinnah Hospital, the number of flu patients has increased over the past ten days. Patients are reporting symptoms such as cold, cough, fever and runny nose.
Medical experts say that changing weather conditions, fluctuations in temperature and colder nights can create favourable conditions for the spread of respiratory illnesses and viral infections. Weather variations can also affect human health. However, medical evidence and confirmation from relevant authorities are needed to establish the exact cause of the increase in flu cases.
Medical experts have advised citizens to take precautionary measures. People experiencing flu symptoms should get adequate rest, drink plenty of fluids, cover their nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing, and limit close contact with others to prevent the spread of infection. Anyone experiencing a high fever, difficulty breathing or worsening symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.
