KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) continued its positive momentum on Wednesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining 1,269.55 points to close at 165,736.76 points. The index rose 0.77% compared with its previous close of 164,467.20 points, extending the market’s recovery for a third consecutive trading session.
Trading remained volatile throughout the session. The benchmark touched an intraday low of 164,355.83 points and reached a high of 166,100.34 points. However, renewed buying interest during the latter part of the session helped the market recover from earlier selling pressure and finish in positive territory.
Overall market activity strengthened considerably. Approximately 578.12 million shares changed hands, with the total traded value reaching around Rs26.20 billion. Trading volume increased by 43.82% compared with the previous session, while the value of shares traded rose by 45.01%. The market’s total capitalization also increased to approximately Rs18.33 trillion.
Major contributors to the benchmark’s gains included Fauji Fertilizer, National Bank of Pakistan, Hub Power, MCB Bank and Bank Alfalah. Market analysts attributed the positive momentum partly to better-than-expected corporate financial results, which helped improve investor confidence and encouraged buying in selected stocks.
Despite the latest gains, market performance remains sensitive to domestic economic conditions, interest-rate developments, international oil prices and corporate earnings. Investors continue to monitor these factors while assessing the sustainability of the market’s recovery.
