The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has imposed a strict ban on smoking and the use of tobacco-related products across its offices in Pakistan. The restriction also applies to guest houses and open areas within HEC premises.
The ban covers conventional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, vapes, hookahs (sheesha), heated tobacco products and other forms of smoking. The commission has warned that disciplinary action may be taken against individuals who violate the rules.
HEC Executive Director Professor Dr. Zia Ul Haq said the commission is also in contact with the heads of higher education institutions across the country to promote smoke-free environments.
According to the commission, most higher education institutions have already prohibited smoking across their campuses and premises.
The initiative aims to encourage a cleaner and healthier environment in educational and official settings. HEC has urged institutions, employees and other concerned individuals to cooperate in maintaining smoke-free premises.
