Lahore has once again topped the global list of the most polluted major cities, with its Air Quality Index reaching 509 on Monday, November 2.
According to IQAir data reported by ARY News, New Delhi ranked second with an AQI of 221, followed by Cairo at 201.
An AQI reading above 300 is considered hazardous, meaning the polluted air can pose serious health risks.
The worsening smog is linked to several factors, including vehicle emissions, industrial pollution, crop-residue burning and weather conditions that trap pollutants close to the ground.
Children, elderly people and those with respiratory problems are particularly vulnerable.
Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities, avoid strenuous exercise outside and wear a well-fitted N95 mask when going outdoors.
