Islamabad: In a significant ruling, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad sentenced 11 individuals—including a sitting MNA from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)—to 15 years and 4 months in prison over the May 9 attack on Ramna Police Station.

The judgment, delivered by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra, found the convicts guilty of attacking the police station, setting motorcycles on fire, pelting stones, and attempting to assault law enforcement personnel. Among the convicted are MNA Abdul Latif and former MPA Wazir Zada Kailashi.

The court emphasized the gravity of the incident, stating that attacks on police stations threaten the very fabric of law and order in the country. “If police stations in the capital are not safe, where else can people feel secure?” remarked Judge Supra during the verdict.

Four of the accused—Muhammad Akram, Meera Khan, Shahzaib, and Sohail Khan—were present in court and were taken into custody immediately following the verdict. Arrest warrants have been issued for those who failed to appear.

Testimonies from 24 prosecution witnesses were presented during the trial, and identification parades were conducted under judicial supervision.

The court handed down various sentences based on the charges, including:

  • Five years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 50,000 for attempted murder of police officers.

  • Four years and a Rs. 40,000 fine for arson involving motorcycles.

  • Additional sentences for disrupting police operations, unlawful assembly, and violating Section 144.
