The Balochistan Health Department has taken stern action against staff members who were absent from duty during the Eid holidays at Civil Hospital Quetta. As part of the disciplinary measures, 15 contract nurses have been dismissed, and salaries of absent doctors are being withheld. A formal notification in this regard has been issued by the hospital’s Medical Superintendent (MS).

‎‎According to the department’s statement, disciplinary action has been initiated against 18 postgraduate trainee doctors and house officers who were absent without official leave on June 7 and 8. Their stipends have been suspended with immediate effect.

‎‎Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar termed the absenteeism “intolerable,” stating that negligence in patient care will not be forgiven under any circumstances. He emphasized that maintaining discipline and professional standards in hospitals is his top priority.

‎‎It is worth noting that the health minister conducted a surprise late-night visit to Civil Hospital, inspecting the emergency, surgery, orthopaedic, and gynecology wards. During the visit, he reviewed the duty rosters of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, ward boys, and other staff. Expressing anger over poor cleanliness conditions in the gynecology ward, he ordered immediate departmental action against the absent staff.
