Political pushback: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif labelled the hike “financial extravagance”, urging lawmakers to remember “the plight of the common man” . On X, senior PML‑N figure Khawaja Saad Rafique criticised it as “incomprehensible” and morally questionable .
Prime Minister’s intervention: PM Shehbaz Sharif has asked both parliamentary heads for detailed reports before deciding whether the raise will stand.
