Study Finds People Age Faster at These 2 Key Ages

Getting older is usually thought of as a slow and steady process that happens over many years.

However, new research suggests that aging doesn’t always happen gradually. Sometimes, it can suddenly speed up.

So if you ever wake up one day, look at yourself in the mirror, and feel like you’ve aged quickly overnight — it might not just be your imagination. It could actually be a real change, as aging sometimes happens in sudden jumps rather than a smooth, slow pace.

As people grow older, their bodies do not age slowly and evenly all the time. Instead, there are two big changes that happen inside the body — one around the age of 44 and another around 60.

These changes happen at the molecular level, meaning deep inside the body’s cells and systems. These sudden shifts might explain why many people start feeling or looking older, or develop health issues, around these ages. Scientists think understanding these changes can help us deal with aging in a better way.

“We’re not just changing gradually over time; there are some really dramatic changes,” geneticist Michael Snyder of Stanford University explained in August 2024 when the study was published, as per ScienceAlert.

“It turns out the mid-40s is a time of dramatic change, as is the early 60s. And that’s true no matter what class of molecules you look at,” he added.
