Polio Vaccine Refusals Rise in Karachi, Worrying Health Officials

In May 2025, more than 37,000 parents in Karachi refused to let their children get the polio vaccine, according to health officials.

This is a small increase from April and shows that more people are rejecting the vaccine. The highest number of refusals came from District East, followed by other areas like Central, South, and Malir.

Experts say this is dangerous because some areas are still at high risk for polio. Many parents are refusing the vaccine because of false information and myths.

To fix this, health teams are trying to raise awareness, involve communities, and get support from religious leaders.

Pakistan is still one of the two countries in the world where polio exists, and these refusals could make things worse.

Officials are asking everyone to help by making sure all children get vaccinated.
