Pakistan and Bahrain have agreed to deepen their bilateral security cooperation, with a renewed focus on combating terrorism, drug trafficking, and human smuggling, during a high-level meeting in Manama between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Bahraini counterpart General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.

Held at the Interior Ministry headquarters at Manama Fort, the meeting saw both leaders emphasize the importance of enhanced collaboration to address evolving regional and global security challenges. According to a statement by Radio Pakistan, the two ministers reviewed existing joint efforts in counter-terrorism, narcotics control, and anti-human trafficking, and agreed to boost operational coordination in these areas.

The ministers discussed revitalizing the Pakistan-Bahrain Joint Security Committee, aiming to make it a more effective platform for strategic dialogue and action.

General Al Khalifa termed Naqvi’s visit a “valuable opportunity” to further strengthen ties, praising the level of trust and coordination between the two nations. Minister Naqvi, in turn, underlined the need for enhanced cooperation between both interior ministries, particularly in intelligence sharing and border security.

Naqvi also extended a formal invitation to his Bahraini counterpart to visit Pakistan in the near future.

The meeting was attended by senior Bahraini officials, including the Deputy Interior Minister and Chief of Public Security, along with Pakistan’s Ambassador to Bahrain Saqib Rauf and members of the diplomatic mission.

Earlier, Naqvi was warmly received at Bahrain International Airport and was accorded a guard of honour upon arrival at the Interior Ministry.

This high-level engagement is seen as a step toward deepening bilateral relations beyond trade and diplomacy, focusing on shared security concerns in a region facing growing transnational threats.
