Renowned Pakistani actor Syed Mohammad Ahmed has voiced serious concerns over the growing issue of delayed payments in the entertainment industry, calling out production houses for allegedly mistreating artists. In a video message shared on social media, the senior actor claimed that many production houses deliberately delay payments, forcing actors to beg like paupers for their hard-earned money.
“Each project turns into a struggle,” he remarked. “They make us feel as though we’re asking for charity when we simply demand what we’ve rightfully earned.”
Mohammad Ahmed further revealed that discussing payments is still seen as inappropriate in the industry, but more artists are now speaking up against these unfair practices. He also disclosed that actors are often made to work late into the night — sometimes until 1 a.m. — beyond the promised hours, but when it comes to their compensation, a delay of five to six months has sadly become normal.
“Even after waiting several months, we have to share our personal struggles just to get a cheque,” he added. “And when it finally arrives, it’s handed over as if it’s a favour, not our right.”
Ahmed concluded his message by saying that financial exploitation in the industry has now reached a critical point, and it is time for artists to collectively raise their voices.
