Jhelum: A heavy cloudburst in Chakwal caused strong rains, leading to flash floods in parts of Jhelum. Because of the sudden flooding, 29 people were trapped in the Dhok Marjan area, around 35 km from Jhelum city.
The Pakistan Army, along with local authorities, carried out a rescue operation and safely rescued all 29 people. Boats couldn’t be used because of the strong water flow, so Army helicopters were used instead.
The rescue effort has been going on for the past 24 hours and is being overseen by Minister of State for Finance and Railways, Bilal Azhar Kayani. He appreciated the quick teamwork of the Army, local administration, and rescue teams.
Officials said Chakwal received 424 mm of rain in a very short time, which caused the dangerous flooding. The rescued people have now been moved to safe areas.
