Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently revealed how one of cricket’s most unforgettable moments turned his wedding day into a personal heartbreak.
In a candid interview, Aamir shared that he secretly married Reena Dutta at the age of 21, defying opposition from both their families. The couple tied the knot quietly and returned home, hoping to eventually share the news with their families. But as fate would have it, their absence went unnoticed — all eyes were glued to the television screen, watching the high-stakes India-Pakistan match unfolding in Sharjah.
The actor recalled that the match seemed to be in India’s favor, and with that confidence, he was basking in both personal and national joy. However, the mood drastically shifted during the final moments of the match. With four runs needed off the last ball, Pakistan’s Javed Miandad smashed a dramatic six off Indian bowler Chetan Sharma, securing victory for Pakistan and crushing Indian hopes.
What was meant to be one of the happiest days of Aamir’s life suddenly became bittersweet. “I was so disappointed,” Aamir recalled. “I thought my wedding would be remembered as the day India won, but instead it became the day India lost in the most heartbreaking way.”
Years later, Aamir met Miandad in person and jokingly confronted him. “Javed Bhai, you didn’t do right to me!” he said, explaining how that iconic six had ruined his wedding day. Miandad, amused and surprised, laughed at the unexpected connection.
The match, held on April 10, 1986, is still remembered as one of the most legendary in cricket history. Miandad’s last-ball six remains etched in the memories of fans on both sides of the border — and, as Aamir Khan revealed, also in the memories of those who had personal milestones on that very day.
