Severe Air Pollution Persists in Punjab; Lahore Ranks Second Among the World’s Most Polluted Cities
Air quality in Punjab continues to deteriorate, showing no significant improvement, as Lahore remains the second most polluted city globally. According to international air quality reports, Lahore recorded an AQI of 368, while Karachi ranks sixth with a particulate matter level of 209.
Punjab’s Environment Department reported that Kasur emerged as the most polluted city in the province this morning, with particulate levels reaching 500 AQI. Other affected cities include Khanewal with an AQI of 365 and Lahore at 353.
The severe smog and high pollution levels have also disrupted transportation. Motorway M-1, connecting Peshawar to Rashakai, has been closed due to low visibility and safety concerns.
Environmental experts warn that this persistent air pollution poses serious health risks, particularly for children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions. Without urgent intervention, the situation could worsen in the coming days.
