Air Quality Improves in Lahore While Pollution Soars in Southern Punjab

LAHORE: The air quality in Lahore has shown signs of improvement, with the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 163 on Wednesday following a noticeable drop in smog levels.

However, this improvement in Lahore stands in stark contrast to conditions in other parts of Punjab. In southern districts, pollution remains alarmingly high. For instance, in Bahawalpur the level of particulate matter reportedly reached 600, while Multan recorded an AQI of 433 and Lodhran showed a reading of 418.

Health experts have urged citizens across the region to wear masks and limit outdoor activities, especially as winter approaches and weather conditions tend to trap pollutants closer to the ground.

While Lahore appears to be heading in the right direction, the gulf between its air quality and that of other Punjab cities serves as a stark reminder of the broader and uneven nature of the smog challenge in the region.
