Are Collagen Supplements Really Beneficial? Surprising Revelations

‎A recent study has challenged common perceptions about collagen supplements and revealed important facts.

‎A comprehensive review of various previous trials found that long term use of collagen supplements may help improve skin health by increasing elasticity and hydration, while also reducing symptoms of arthritis.

‎According to new research, these supplements are not only helpful for surface level cosmetic purposes but also act as factors in deep tissue repair. However, the study also clarified that the use of collagen does not have any significant effect on skin roughness.

‎For the latest study, researchers at a British university reviewed evidence from 16 reviews and 113 clinical trials involving approximately 8,000 patients.

‎Scientists say clinicians should consider collagen supplements as an effective adjunct treatment for the effects of aging on the skin, particularly for patients in the post menopause stage or those whose skin has been affected by sun exposure, especially where conventional treatments are unsuitable or expensive.

‎The research also found that consistent use of collagen supplements is associated with a reduction in arthritis symptoms such as joint stiffness and pain. In addition, they have been linked to improvements in muscle health.

‎What is collagen?

‎Collagen is a protein naturally found in the human body and plays a fundamental role in strengthening the skin, nails, bones, and connective tissues.

‎With increasing age, its production in the body declines, which can lead to conditions such as wrinkles and arthritis related discomfort.
