A new system designed to deliver tiny capsules containing anti-inflammatory proteins to specific parts of the brain may help combat Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
According to the latest research published in the journal Biomaterials, Astrocapsules are tiny capsules made from a safe gel that contains brain cells called astrocytes.
The new study revealed that age-related inflammation, which is linked to diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, needs to be treated at specific sites with anti-inflammatory therapy.
The research further stated that when astrocyte capsules carrying the anti-inflammatory protein IL-1Ra are delivered, they significantly reduce inflammation in the brain.
