August 5 Will Be ‘Decisive Battle’ for PTI Founder’s Release, Says Aleema Khan

MANSEHRA: Aleema Khan, sister of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has declared that August 5 will mark a “decisive battle” in the party’s campaign for her brother’s release from Adiala Jail, calling on supporters to prepare for what she described as a crucial phase of the movement.

Addressing PTI supporters in Mansehra on Saturday, Aleema Khan announced that the party’s strategy would differ from previous protests. She said PTI workers would not assemble at Islamabad’s D-Chowk, but instead would head directly toward Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023.

“This time our destination is not D-Chowk but Adiala Jail,” she told supporters, urging party workers to remain united and peaceful throughout the campaign.

Aleema Khan also accused the government of circulating statements in the name of the jailed PTI founder that she claimed were false. She alleged that attempts were being made to mislead the public regarding Imran Khan’s position and directives while he remains in custody.

Highlighting the party’s electoral strength, she said Punjab had played a decisive role in PTI’s previous election victories by helping the party secure around 100 constituencies. She appealed to supporters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to stand alongside Punjab in the upcoming movement for Imran Khan’s release.

PTI has already announced nationwide rallies on August 5, marking two years since Imran Khan’s imprisonment. Party leaders say the demonstrations are intended to demand his release and protest what they describe as political victimisation.

Imran Khan has remained in Adiala Jail since August 2023 and faces multiple legal cases. PTI maintains that the cases are politically motivated and continues to demand his immediate release, while the government insists that all legal proceedings are being conducted in accordance with the law.
