The federal government has imposed a ban on the general import of the chloroform chemical.
According to details, a notification has been issued regarding amendments to the Import Policy Order 2022 in this regard.
As per the notification, only pharmaceutical companies or the pharmaceutical sector will be allowed to import chloroform. Pharmaceutical companies will be required to obtain a no objection certificate from the Drug Regulatory Authority.
Furthermore, the notification was issued after approval by the Cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee.
According to officials, chloroform is a chemical harmful to human health and the environment. The purpose of amending the import policy is to prevent the misuse of chemicals.
