Bigg Boss 19 Faces ₹2 Crore Legal Notice Over Copyright Violation

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s reality show Bigg Boss 19 has landed in legal trouble after Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL), a copyright licensing firm, issued a legal notice demanding damages worth ₹2 crore.

According to PPL, the producers of Bigg Boss 19 used several popular Bollywood songs — including Chikni Chameli and Dhatt Teri Ki — without securing the mandatory public performance license. The notice, dated September 19, has been addressed to Endemol Shine India, directors Thomas Gosset, Nicolas Chazarin, and Deepak Dhar.

The show, currently at the peak of its season, features celebrities such as Ashnoor Kaur, Zeishan Quadri, Tanya Mittal, and Awez Darbar. PPL has demanded both the pending license fees and an additional ₹2 crore in damages.

Legal experts say the case could spark a wider debate in India’s entertainment industry regarding strict adherence to copyright laws, potentially serving as a warning to other television productions.

Hosted by Salman Khan, Bigg Boss remains one of India’s most popular reality shows. It is yet to be seen how the producers will respond to the legal challenge and whether the case will disrupt the show’s schedule.
