Cricket fans are in for a nostalgic treat this summer as Pakistan’s legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi has been confirmed to captain the Pakistan Champions squad in the highly anticipated World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, set to take place across the United Kingdom from July 18 to August 2.

The announcement has reignited excitement among fans eager to witness cricketing greats return to action, with Afridi, affectionately known as “Boom Boom,” once again donning national colors—this time in the legends’ arena.

A Balanced, High-Voltage Squad

The Pakistan Champions squad boasts an exciting mix of explosive hitters, experienced campaigners, and reliable bowlers. Alongside Afridi, key names include Shoaib Malik, known for his versatility and cool head, as well as hard-hitting opener Sharjeel Khan, power-hitter Asif Ali, and veteran wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal.

The bowling attack features left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz, known for his fiery spells, and Sohail Khan, offering pace depth. Sohail Tanvir, with his unorthodox action, provides a spin option, while Afridi himself brings his trademark leg-spin to the mix.

Former captain Sarfraz Ahmed adds both experience behind the stumps and leadership depth, rounding off what many believe is one of the most balanced squads in the tournament.

Afridi’s Promise: Entertainment and Passion

Speaking at the announcement, Afridi expressed his excitement to lead the side and promised fans a thrilling spectacle.

> “We’re not just showing up to play; each match will be a spectacle of skill and strategy. The fans deserve nothing less,” Afridi said, hinting at the team’s determination to entertain while competing fiercely for the title.

Afridi’s return to leadership brings a wave of nostalgia for fans who watched him captain Pakistan to famous victories in his prime.

Tournament Details and Riveting Fixtures

The WCL 2025 will unfold across iconic English venues including Edgbaston (Birmingham), Northampton, Leicester, and Headingley (Leeds).

Pakistan’s campaign kicks off with a high-profile opening clash against the England Champions on July 18 at Edgbaston. But all eyes will be on the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan Legends showdown scheduled for July 20, a rivalry that transcends generations.

Following that, Pakistan will face formidable sides like South Africa, Australia, and West Indies in what promises to be a thrilling fortnight of cricket nostalgia.

Reviving Rivalries and Memories

Beyond the competition, WCL 2025 is set to reignite some of cricket’s most cherished rivalries, with legends like Afridi, Malik, and others stepping back onto the big stage. With India’s squad also packed with household names from the past, fans are eagerly awaiting what feels like a trip down memory lane.

Tournament organizers have promised fireworks, high-quality cricket, and a festival-like atmosphere, with players from across the globe coming together to celebrate the spirit of the game.

Tokyo University Launches Fully Autonomous Lab Where Robots Run the Show The lights are on at the University of Tokyo’s newest chemistry lab, but the lab coats are gone. In a move that signals a shift for experimental science, the university has officially opened a facility where robots handle the entire research cycle—from mixing chemicals to analyzing results—without a single human in the room. This isn’t just a room with a few automated arms. It’s a closed-loop system designed to hunt for new materials for batteries and semiconductors at speeds that make traditional methods look like they’re standing still. The AI designs the experiment, the robots execute it, and the data feeds right back into the AI to decide what happens next. "The goal is to remove the bottleneck of human physical labor," a researcher involved in the project’s pilot phase said. "A human can do maybe ten experiments a day. This system won't stop at ten, and it doesn't need to go home at 5:00 PM." The stakes are high. Japan is currently locked in a global race to find more efficient materials for the next generation of electric vehicle batteries. By cutting humans out of the "pipette-and-wait" cycle, the university expects to compress years of trial-and-error into a few weeks of non-stop robotic iteration. It’s a response to a looming crisis, too. Japan’s shrinking workforce means there are fewer young scientists entering the field every year. Automating the grunt work isn't just about speed; it’s about survival in a country where human talent is becoming a scarce resource. Critics often worry that "robot-run" means "job-lost," but the university’s lead engineers argue the opposite. They say the move frees up researchers to actually think, rather than spending eight hours a day performing repetitive liquid handling. The robots don't get bored, they don't make clerical errors, and they don't suffer from "Friday afternoon" fatigue that can ruin a data set. The lab is currently focused on thin-film materials, but the team plans to scale the technology to other branches of chemistry soon. If it works, the image of the lone scientist hunched over a workbench might soon be a relic of the past. The lab is running right now. It’ll be running tomorrow morning. And it won't need a coffee break to get through the night.
