A patient infected with the Congo virus has died at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad. This marks the first Congo related death in Punjab this year and the fifth nationwide.
According to reports, the 35-year-old butcher from Hazara Colony, Rawalpindi, was initially admitted to a local hospital due to illness. Upon showing symptoms such as bleeding and other signs of Congo virus, he was shifted to PIMS Hospital.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed the cause of death was the Congo virus. The patient died just four hours after being admitted to PIMS.
Sources stated that the patient was buried under strict safety protocols under the supervision of the Rawalpindi health department. His family members are also being monitored.
According to official data, this is the first Congo virus death reported in Punjab this year. So far, 33 cases have been confirmed, and five resulting in fatalities.
