Kabul — Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Afghan interim Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani in Kabul today to hold key discussions on regional security, counterterrorism cooperation, and border management.

The high-level meeting emphasized strengthening ties and working together to combat the growing threat of terrorism, including the activities of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The interior ministry said that Naqvi was warmly received by Afghan officials upon arrival. The agenda included discussions on effective border control, stopping illegal infiltration, preventing drug smuggling, and managing cross-border movements.

Naqvi told his counterpart, “Terrorist groups are spreading instability in the region. We must act together to stop them.” He also highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding hospitality to Afghan refugees, reaffirming that Pakistan welcomes legal entry but is taking action against illegal residents.

Senior Pakistani officials, including Special Representative for Afghanistan Mohammad Sadiq and Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, joined Naqvi in the delegation.

The visit follows several steps to improve Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, including the revival of the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC), appointment of ambassadors, and recent trilateral talks with Uzbekistan on the UAP Railway Project.

This visit also comes as Pakistan continues to face increased terrorist incidents, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
