ISLAMABAD: A judicial magistrate has approved a three-day physical remand of two suspects arrested for allegedly raping a woman in a private apartment located within a shopping mall in Islamabad.
The suspects, identified as Faisal Jalal and Hafeezullah, were presented before Judicial Magistrate Mureed Abbas by Islamabad Police. The investigation officer informed the court that the suspects’ medical and forensic examinations were necessary for the ongoing investigation, requesting their physical remand.
The court approved the request and directed the police to submit a progress report at the next hearing. The suspects were handed over to the police for three days of physical remand.
According to the FIR registered at Margalla Police Station, the complainant woman had traveled from a village in Arifwala to Islamabad in search of employment and had been seeking a job through Facebook.
As per her statement, on October 21, Faisal invited her to a private shopping mall, where Hafeezullah took her to a flat. The woman alleged that during the meeting, both men assaulted and raped her, and subjected her to physical violence.
Police said both suspects were arrested on the spot after the woman contacted the 15 emergency helpline to report the assault.
The court instructed police to present the suspects again upon completion of their remand and to submit an updated investigation report at the next hearing.
