The death toll from the Khanpur road accident has climbed to seven following the passing of three more victims in the hospital. The collision, which occurred on the outskirts of the city, has left families in mourning and local authorities scrambling to explain the recurring safety failures on the stretch of road.

Three individuals succumbed to their injuries overnight at the District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors confirmed the victims suffered severe internal trauma during the initial collision between a passenger van and a speeding truck. Four others had died at the scene immediately following the impact.

The van was carrying commuters from a nearby village into the city center when the collision occurred. Witnesses describe the road conditions as poor, with narrow lanes and a lack of proper signage near the accident site. Local police have taken the truck driver into custody, though he claims the van swerved into his lane without warning.

This incident marks the third major collision on this specific highway segment in the last six months. Residents held a brief protest outside the municipal office this morning, demanding the installation of speed breakers and improved lighting. They argue that frequent heavy vehicle traffic combined with the deteriorating road surface makes the route a daily gamble for commuters.

“We keep hearing promises about road upgrades, but the reality is seen in the hospital morgue,” said a local community leader who arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. “How many more lives must be lost before the authorities take notice of the danger?”

The district administration has promised a formal inquiry into the cause of the crash. For now, the families of the seven victims are left to handle the funeral arrangements, while the stretch of road remains as hazardous as it was yesterday.
