Pakistan has said that the desecration of any place of worship is a violation of religious equality and undermines the sense of security and mutual respect that all communities deserve. Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi made the remarks while commenting on the anniversary of the Babri Masjid’s destruction on December 6.
He said the Babri Masjid remains deeply embedded in Pakistan’s collective memory, recalling that the mosque’s demolition in 1992 continues to evoke sadness and concern for all who oppose intolerance. He stressed that safeguarding religious heritage is a shared responsibility of the international community and that attacks on Muslim symbols must be addressed with justice and accountability:
The spokesperson expressed concern over the continued marginalisation of Indian Muslims, saying Hindu extremist groups, encouraged by state patronage, are pushing for the ghettoisation of minorities. He urged global institutions, including the UN, to ensure protection of Muslim heritage and prevent such incidents from recurring.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and religious freedoms of minorities within its borders. Andrabi urged India to create an environment of tolerance and inclusivity, ensuring equal citizenship rights and mutual respect among all religious and cultural communities.
