Police arrested a Karachi man late Wednesday following a viral video that showed him repeatedly striking a food delivery rider in the upscale DHA neighborhood.

The suspect, identified through footage that circulated across social media platforms for 48 hours, was taken into custody after a formal complaint was lodged at the Darakhshan police station. Investigators say the confrontation began over a minor traffic dispute near a busy intersection, escalating when the suspect exited his vehicle to physically assault the rider.

The footage shows the rider struggling to defend himself as the suspect lashes out, ignoring onlookers. The incident sparked immediate public outrage, with labor rights groups and citizens calling for swift legal action against what they describe as a growing trend of impunity among privileged motorists in the city.

Police confirmed the suspect is now in custody, though they have yet to release a statement regarding the specific charges filed. Legal experts suggest the case will likely involve sections of the Pakistan Penal Code related to assault and intimidation.

The victim, who works for a major food delivery service, told investigators he was simply trying to complete his delivery route when the altercation started. His employer has since issued a brief statement promising to support him through the legal process, noting that rider safety remains a “primary concern.”

This incident is the latest in a series of road rage cases in Karachi that have pushed the police to increase surveillance in high-traffic commercial zones. While arrests are often made after footage goes viral, critics argue that consistent enforcement—rather than reactive policing—is the only way to curb such behavior on the city’s streets.

The suspect remains in police custody, awaiting a court appearance scheduled for Thursday morning.
