The digital system for reporting births and deaths has become operational in hospitals and health centers.
On the instructions of the Federal Minister for Interior, NADRA is actively working to improve and fix shortcomings in the registration system. With the cooperation of provincial governments, the process of registering births and deaths has now been made more efficient, faster, and transparent.
Work is underway on the National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework, approved by the Prime Minister on January 1. Under the pilot project, NADRA has provided the latest digital system to more than 50 hospitals and health centers.
These hospitals include PIMS, CDA, and FG hospitals in Islamabad, Lady Aitchison Hospital in Lahore, and several hospitals and health centers in Quetta, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit, and Sindh.
With the new system, birth or death notifications from hospitals or health centers are sent directly to NADRA. The authority will then send a message via mobile app and SMS to the parents or heirs of the deceased for registration at the union council.
Under the automated system, 4,000 birth and 407 death notifications have so far been received nationwide. Citizens can register a birth or death through the NADRA mobile app or by visiting their nearest union council.
Under the pilot project, this facility has been provided in three districts of Punjab and will soon be available throughout the province. Work is also underway to introduce the modern system in other public and private hospitals and health centers.
Similarly, once provincial governments complete preparations, registration facilities at union councils will also be made available.
