LAHORE: Tremors from a moderate earthquake jolted Lahore and several nearby cities, including Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib, and Sheikhupura, on Monday. The earthquake was recorded at a magnitude of 4.4, with a depth of 14 kilometers, and its epicenter located southwest of Lahore.
According to Dawn News, strong tremors were felt in various parts of Lahore at 11:39 AM, prompting residents to rush out of homes and offices, reciting Kalma Tayyaba in fear.
Districts such as Muridke, Kamoke, and other parts of Punjab also reported experiencing the quake. No immediate reports of casualties or damage were confirmed.
The Director General of Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that emergency teams and machinery are on alert, and inspections of buildings are underway to ensure safety. He also warned of potential aftershocks.
In recent weeks, tremors have frequently been felt in Karachi, as well as in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Although earthquakes are less common in Punjab, the latest quake has affected a wide stretch of cities in the provinve.
