As millions of Americans hit the roads and skies for the holiday, the weather is giving some serious travel warnings. A pair of storm systems are lining up to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to the central and southern states, while parts of the Northwest, Midwest and East brace for chilly temps, snow and slick conditions.

According to forecasters:

In the South and Southeast, expect showers and gusty storms ahead of Tuesday and Wednesday major travel days.

The Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region could see several inches of snow and high winds, with “white-out” conditions possible in some spots.

The Pacific Northwest has its own troubles: heavy rain, mountain snow and downhill slick spots as a so-called atmospheric-river system moves in.

Travelers are advised to monitor their route and flight status closely road conditions and airport delays are likely. With roughly 82 million Americans expected to travel at least 50 miles this week, it’s a busy and weather-sensitive holiday.
