MONACO — Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur was absent from the Monaco Grand Prix paddock on Saturday due to medical reasons, the Italian team confirmed in an official statement.
The unexpected development came just as Scuderia Ferrari emerged as the clear favorites for the weekend’s crucial qualifying session. During Friday’s free practice, local hero Charles Leclerc and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton dominated the timing sheets, putting the team in a prime position to challenge for pole position on the streets of Monte Carlo.
In an official medical update, Ferrari stated:
“Fred Vasseur will not be at the circuit today. Following some medical checks, Fred will remain under observation at a local medical facility.”
While the team did not disclose specific details regarding the nature of Vasseur’s condition, senior engineering and trackside management personnel are expected to share his leadership responsibilities on the pit wall during the high-stakes qualifying session.
