Another suspected case of rabies (a disease transmitted through dog bites) has been reported in Sindh, while a worrying increase in dog bite incidents and rabies related deaths has been recorded in the province this year.

‎According to officials at Jinnah Hospital Karachi, a 35 year old woman from Hyderabad was shifted to the hospital in critical condition after being bitten by a dog. During examination, symptoms of rabies were detected in the patient.

‎Officials said that the patient was confirmed to have hydrophobia along with other prominent symptoms of rabies. The results of tests conducted later also came back positive, confirming the presence of the disease.

‎According to the hospital administration, after the positive test result, the patient’s family took her with them.

‎Meanwhile, according to data from the Sindh Health Department, more than 40,000 dog bite cases have been reported across the province this year.

‎The Health Department stated that in Karachi alone, 10 people have lost their lives to rabies so far this year.
