The FIA has issued a Level 4 rain warning for Saturday’s sessions at the São Paulo Grand Prix, signalling the highest category of rainfall on its weather scale. The governing body expects heavy downpours and possible thunderstorms, creating uncertainty for the Sprint race and qualifying.
Friday’s practice sessions are expected to run under mostly dry conditions, giving teams a rare chance to gather clean data. However, things are forecast to change dramatically overnight, with an 80% chance of rain early Saturday morning just hours before the Sprint is due to start.
Officials say rainfall could ease as the day progresses, but conditions may still remain wet enough to affect both the Sprint and qualifying sessions. The FIA predicts rain levels dropping to stage 2 or 3, though São Paulo’s weather is known for shifting suddenly.
Sunday’s main race currently looks clearer, with only a 20% chance of showers, but teams are preparing for every possible scenario. Given Interlagos’ unpredictable climate, another rain hit weekend could shake up the championship battle once again.
