ISLAMABAD: The Indus River is swelling dangerously, with a high flood reported at Guddu Barrage and a medium flood recorded at Sukkur Barrage, according to the Flood Forecasting Division.

At Guddu, the river’s inflow has surged to 513,600 cusecs, while the outflow stands at 481,400 cusecs. Downstream at Sukkur Barrage, the river is carrying a medium flood, with 422,000 cusecs inflow and 370,700 cusecs outflow.

Further downstream at Kotri Barrage, the water flow has dropped to below low flood levels, where inflow is 170,300 cusecs and outflow 163,300 cusecs.

Meanwhile, no flood threat has been reported at upstream waterworks including Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa. However, reservoirs remain heavily filled. Tarbela Dam has reached 1549.20 feet an alarming 99.20% of its maximum capacity of 1550 feet while Mangla Dam currently stands at 1218.70 feet, which is 75.73% of its storage limit.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, as continuous high inflows at Guddu and Sukkur could increase the risk of flooding in surrounding areas.
