The Karachi World Book Fair (KWBF) has gained international stature with the participation of both local and foreign publishers, attracting a large number of visitors from across the city, organisers said on the second day of the exhibition.
Speaking to journalists, Chairman of the Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association Kamran Noorani and Convener of the book fair Waqar Mateen said the fair is not only promoting books and knowledge but also contributing to positive intellectual change in society. They expressed satisfaction over the strong public response, noting that children, students, youth and scholars are showing great interest in reading.
The organisers said the main objective of the KWBF is to promote reading habits, enhance intellectual awareness and reconnect the younger generation with books. They added that the availability of quality books in multiple languages by national and international publishers provides a unique opportunity for book lovers.
They further stated that special children’s activities, educational sessions and literary discussions are also being held during the fair to encourage a reading culture. The overwhelming public interest, they said, proves that books continue to play an important and influential role in today’s society.
