Former England captain Geoffrey Boycott lashes out at team again after Ashes defeat

Former England captain Geoffrey Boycott has once again launched a scathing attack on his team following their defeat at the hands of Australia in the third Test of the Ashes series.

In his remarks, Boycott said that arrogance and excessive self-belief had replaced common sense. He warned that unless changes were made to the team, England would continue to face the same failures.

He added that whatever Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum have done with England cricket, the responsibility lies with them, and went on to say that head coach Brendon McCullum should step down.

Criticising the players, the former captain said that if what you are doing is not working, then you should stop digging a deeper hole. Progress, he stressed, is only possible through change.

Boycott further stated that Ben Stokes is a world-class all-rounder whom no one wants to lose, but if Stokes does not correct his attitude and approach, England will have to look for a new captain.

He also said he does not want to see Harry Brook as the new captain, questioning how Brook could advise a batter to play responsibly when he himself plays irresponsible shots.

Boycott concluded by saying that if no changes are made, England cricket will continue in the same direction. He criticised players for becoming complacent and repeatedly making the same mistakes.

He added that most players should be sent back to play county cricket and that the players’ central contracts should also be reviewed.
