The French Armed Forces have issued their first official statement following reports that Rafale fighter jets may have been downed during a recent military exchange between Pakistan and India.
Speaking at a press briefing in Paris, a spokesperson for the French military said that France is “closely monitoring the situation” and evaluating the performance of its equipment, including the Rafale aircraft, in light of these unconfirmed reports.
“We are in contact with our Indian partners to obtain direct and accurate information,” the spokesperson stated. “France is eager to learn as much as possible from this experience.”
Addressing a journalist’s question, the French official acknowledged that if the reports are verified, it would mark the first time a Rafale jet has been lost in combat in over two decades of operational service.
However, the spokesperson emphasized that the details surrounding the incident remain unclear, and multiple aspects are still awaiting confirmation.
Reports emerged earlier this month suggesting that Pakistan had responded to an incursion on May 7 by downing several Indian aircraft, including up to four Rafales. These claims have not been independently verified.
While some international analysts have interpreted the incident as a setback for India, defense experts stress that comprehensive analysis and confirmed data are essential before drawing conclusions regarding air superiority or strategic implications.
