KARACHI – A new spell of rainfall began in several parts of Karachi on Wednesday, bringing relief from the heat but also raising concerns of urban flooding and traffic disruption.
Showers were reported in Sharae Faisal, PECHS, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, the Airport area, Nursery, Gulzar-e-Hijri Scheme 33, Sohrab Goth along the Super Highway, and around Jinnah Hospital.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors as much as possible, and maintain distance from electricity poles to prevent accidents.
While rainwater from Tuesday’s downpour was drained from main arteries including Sharae Faisal, several locations such as FTC, Baloch Colony, and Malir Halt are still struggling with standing water, hampering traffic flow.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that further rainfall may continue in Karachi and other southern districts over the next 24 hours, which could worsen the waterlogging situation in low-lying areas.
